Job Description Summary:

The Network & Desktop Support Technician's role is to provide a single point of contact for end-users to receive support and maintenance for desktop computing. Configures, installs, documents and optimizes network devices, computer workstations, laptops, and mobile devices. Provides troubleshooting expertise for network and computing issues in person, by telephone and email queue in timely manner

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities: 

  1. Implements system software changes, operating system releases and maintains the operational status of the installed system.  
  2. Provides input to the Contingency Plan procedures for system disaster.  
  3. Installs and configures workstation, laptops, mobile devices, network operating systems, and application software.  
  4. Backs up network data.  
  5. Configures security settings or access permissions for groups or individuals. 
  6. Analyzes and reports computer network security breaches or attempted breaches.  
  7. Identifies the causes of networking problems using diagnostic testing software and equipment.  
  8. Configures VPNs, wide area network (WAN) or local area network (LAN) routers or related equipment.  
  9. Installs network software, including security or firewall software.  
  10. Troubleshoots network or connectivity problems for users or user groups.  
  11. Provides telephone support related to networking, desktop, mobile devices, telephony, or connectivity issues.  
  12. Evaluates local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN) performance data to ensure sufficient availability or speed to identify network problems or for disaster recovery purposes.  
  13. Provides Tier 1 and Tier 2 end-user support.

Position Qualifications:

  1. Functional understanding of network topologies and employed technologies is required.
  2. Ability to effectively troubleshoot hardware (PC, Laptops, Printers, Tablets, and Smartphones), software, and system problems required. 
  3. Strong understanding of wired/wireless networking concepts, general troubleshooting steps, and network tools.
  4. Expert technology problem solver with the ability to identify and resolve issues without little or no supervision. 
  5. Working experience with Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft related software products required. 
  6. Working knowledge of Active Directory required.  
  7. Two-year degree or equivalent work experience.
  8. A+ certification preferred. 
  9. CompTIA and/or Microsoft certifications a plus. 
  10. 3+ years’ experience in the following:
    • Troubleshooting network connectivity and Remote access/VPN related technologies 
    • Laptop, Desktop, and Server hardware support 
    • Microsoft Office troubleshooting
  11. Working technical knowledge of current protocols, operating systems, and standards. 
  12. Working knowledge Active Directory and Group Policies, Exchange 2013 and remote control tools. 
  13. Cisco Routers, switches and firewall experience.
